Sunday August 3
I recently met up with six adventurous gals at Lake Jean in Ricketts Glen State Park for a good old-fashioned paddle party. This wasn’t just any casual lake day—it was a meet-and-greet for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Daughters of Conservation.
We arrived armed with kayaks, a paddleboard, questionable upper body strength, and a mutual love of nature—though some of us were also pretty motivated by the promise of hot dogs later.
The weather showed up strong: blue skies, perfect temps, and just enough breeze to make you feel like you’re in a shampoo commercial but not too much to blow you into the next state.

Once on the water our conversation ranged from “What kind of bird is that?” to “Do hot dogs count as protein?” and “When is the next trip.”

After paddling, we regrouped on dry land for a picnic. We roasted hot dogs over an open flame like true wild women of the woods.
By the end of the day, we were sun-kissed, full of questionable hot dog math, and grateful to have met like-minded ladies who can paddle hard, snack harder, and still look good in bug spray.
Special thanks to Kayla and Chastity for planning this fun event.
