I made it to the northern keys by 9am. I hadnt realized the casino outside of Miami was only an hour from the keys.
I found a botanical gardens outside John Pennekamp State Park and went for a bike ride. While biking I unknowingly flushed a bird from the shrubs. Next thing I know when I look up a large bird flys over me carrying a snake. He dropped it on the ground just in front of me. It had no head so I wasnt sure what kind it was.
While biking I met a park ranger and I mentioned that I did not have camp reservations anywhere for tonight. He pulled out his cell phone and called John Pennekamp State Park office. His wife works there. And wella, I had a place to camp.
I saw alot of interesting things riding-besides the dead headless snake falling from the sky. I saw tree snails, lizards with curly tails, reddish trees that had peely bark and a baby hanging in the tree.
It appeared I was in the area where they used to launch Nike rockets. There were four asphalt roads in the shape of a cross that just ended.
I was so lucky to find a campsite at John Pennekamp because they only have 46 sites and it is popular because of all the activities.
Speaking of activities, two hours later I was on a boat to go snorkeling./
I may need a vacation from my vacation.
