My day started with a beautiful sunrise.

There was so much to see at Huntington I wish I had more time there.
They are known for their variety of birds. I found a rookery where many different birds were nesting. They made some weird sounds including one that sounded like it was gargling. Not to be left out the alligators were grunting too. It really reminded me of Jurassic Park.

This guy reminded me of something from Dr. Seus. He is called “Little Blue Heron” and I suspect he was the gargler.
I enjoyed a birding program with the ranger in the morning . He had some great information. It was time to leave by noon as I had a 4.5 hour drive.

The drive was uneventful and I arrived in the evening at Jekyll Island Campground. The entire small island is owned by the state of Georgia and was once the stomping grounds for the rich.
It’s very pretty with lots of old oak trees, and historical district with renovated mansions and a great bike path around the entire island. It is also very popular and I again was not able to reserve an rv site and instead was in the tent area. My site was small and I would consider it more of a group tent site as my neighbors were very close. Luckily I didn’t plan to be at my site much.

On my last visit I met Terry who is retired and lives on the island and loves to bike. So we met for dinner and then waited on the cold and windy beach after 8pm for a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral. Unfortunately the launch got scrubbed to another day. Watching a launch is on my bucket list.
