Outdoor Women Learning Survival Skills-Taught by Jessie Krebs in Burlington, Vermont

Saturday May 6, 2026
A friend sent me an email about survival classes for women. Jessie Krebs of Alone Season 9 who lives in Colorado was coming to Burlington Vermont to teach some classes for women. One that immediatly caught my eye was advanced fire-making techniques-bow drill and friction fires. She was also teaching a survival class the same weekend.
My daughter, Libby, who lives in Massachusetts likes to hike and is planning a big trip in California so I asked if she would like to spend a weekend in Vermont camping in Mom’s van and she joined me!
I stopped in Mass. and spent the night, then Libby and I continued on to Burlington about a 4 hour trip. I had a harvest host reservation for Friday at Weird Window Brewery in South Burlington but we arrived too late and ended up sleeping in a sketchy Hotel 6 parking lot in Winooski, Vermont. We were next to a 24 hour McDonalds so Libby was spared peeing in a nalgene bottle-my normal bathroom-she will go as far as dehydrating to avoid this.
We didnt get “the Knock” but we sure smelled the unmistakable scent of pot smoke which got sucked in the van via the roof fan. We slept well.
Saturday’s Survival class was held in North Burlington at the Rock Point Center bordering beautiful Lake Champlain. There we were warmly greated by Jessie, who has a very big smile and looks every bit the part of a confident and happy outdoors Gal. Soon three other women joined us for a cozy class of 5.
The weather was kinda icky so we spent the morning indoors learning about not only how to survive in an unplanned emergency in the wilderness but also how to be rescued which is the GOAL!
